01

The living room

The living room by day, the garden doors open

You come in and see straight through: the living room, the dining table and the green of the garden all on one axis. The big window stays open most of the day, and the birds and the sea come in with it.

Between the two columns are the hooks for two hammocks. That is where the afternoon tends to end up.

02

The kitchen

A wide kitchen with a pantry, and room for two or three people to cook without getting in each other’s way. The Olímpica supermarket is across the road and delivers, so the shopping turns up while you are on the beach.

If you would rather not cook at all, a housekeeper we know does the shopping, the meals and the house. You settle it with us before you arrive.

03

The ground floor room

The room for whoever would rather not do stairs: on the ground floor, with a double bed and a bunk, air conditioning and a hot shower of its own.

It opens straight onto the living room, which also makes it the right room to take if you are travelling with small children.

Bathrooms and laundry

Four bathrooms in all, three of them with a hot shower. The fourth has cold water only — which in Santa Marta means lukewarm.

The laundry is a room of its own, with a washing machine and a line in the shade, and a door straight through to the covered parking. On long stays the cleaner comes as often as you want her.

05

The second floor

Two bedrooms and a bathroom. One double, the other with bunks; the air conditioning is independent in both.

From the landing you can hear the sea at night. It is the part of the house that empties first in the morning, because breakfast happens downstairs.
