The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is the highest coastal mountain range in the world: 5,775 metres above sea level a few kilometres from the beach. It is one of the most striking places in the area, and there the wisdom of nature meets that of the indigenous peoples.
In the same place is a hidden paradise called Minca, a small town about forty-five minutes from Santa Marta, known as the Ecological Capital of Colombia and recently named one of the ten most spectacular destinations in the country.
You drive up through switchbacks in the green: the temperature drops six or seven degrees and the noise of the coast disappears altogether. Up there are the waterfalls and the river pools, where people stay in the water until the afternoon.
